Winter Elementary Tennis League

This is a Team Tennis league for 1st to 5th graders with beginner and intermediate skills. Matches will be in the Sacred Heart Catholic School  gymnasium, every Friday for 5 weeks (Feb 9-March 8).  Although the league is beginner friendly, player should be able to serve and receive serves

4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. and each team will have a 1 hour session at 4:00 p.m. or 5:00 p.m. 

SATA GRAND PRIX

A 4-tournament series for high school players from Danville to Henry County. Will conclude with a formal banquet/awards ceremony attended by players, parents and sponsors in October. Players are guaranteed an enriching tournament experience and maximum fun!

Points are earned for participation – those playing the most will acquire the most. Trophies will be given out at end of year banquet. Each player earns 1 bag tag for playing in a tournament. Lunch is provided. Evaluations will be provided afterwards. Example: 10 points is earned by any of the following:

Losing in the first round, receiving a first-round bye, winning matches other than a first-round bye (with a reduced number of points for consolation round matches), advancing to the quarterfinals etc…

30 bonus points are given for winning the finals Consolation draw winners will receive 50% points of main draw

ADULT PICKLEBALL PROGRAM

This introductory program will be taught by Scott Preston and SATA Board Member Ken Cussick. This will focus on learning how to play the game, how to keep score, basic rules, and the mechanics of playing. There is a limit of 24 people. No pickleball background required. All equipment will be provided.

“I play for Crush pickleball and I’m a  IPTPA Level 2 Instructor. I have played for about 3 years at the tournament level and have a strong passion for the sport.  I love to help others find the pickleball addiction!”

RED BALL YOUTH TENNIS

For Grades 1-5
 
This fun, low-pressure program is a great way to introduce your child to tennis for beginners as well elevate their skills for intermediate players. This program will get your player ready for the next winter elementary league at Sacred Heart, which runs from 1/9 to 2/6. Any skill level welcome. Equipment provided.
This program is a service of Southside Area Tennis Association with sponsorship from the USTA.

AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM

Next Session Starts Fridays 1/9-2/6, from 3:30-4:30, Cost is free to all Winter Elementary League players and Sacred Heart Students. Location is the Sacred Heart Gymnasium. This program will precede the weekly Elementary tennis league and will be meant to get your child ready for that leagues competitive play. The fun, low-pressure program is a great way to introduce your child to tennis for beginners as well elevate their skills for intermediate players. Your child will be able to stay until the Elementary league starts so you won’t have to worry about picking them up then coming back for their elementary league session. This program is open to all students even if they are not playing in the Elementary league.

Winter Elementary League

About Winter League Program:
This 5-week program will be a fun, team tennis league for 1st-5th graders with beginner and intermediate skill sets. Matches will be in school gymnasiums on (two sessions, 45min each). Although the league is beginner-friendly, players must be able to get serves in consistently and keep score
 
We anticipate four full teams with up to 10 players per team. Choose your preferred team at registration: Sacred Heart, Heritage Academy, Danville Public Schools, or open/other. Space is limited to 40 participants max. Free loaner racquets are available. Program size is limited.

Learn, Practice,
& Play

These five-week programs, conducted one hour per week, implement the games-based approach to teaching tennis as well as modified courts and equipment as needed, and are a fast and fun way to learn tennis and/or improve your game. Programs are available from ages 4 to 99+ and from beginner to intermediate skill levels. The atmosphere is informal, with emphasis on fun, fitness, and play.  Free loaner racquets are available.

Learn, Practice, and Play is a five-week program, with sessions conducted one hour per week. This program runs spring, summer and fall.

JUNIOR TENNIS CLINICS AT CHATMOSS

SATA has begun working with Coach Ken and Kate at Chatmoss Country Club to serve the Martinsville area with tennis programming. The coaches have a combined 32 years of experience and are USTA and RSPA Certified.

Sessions are five weeks long and consist of group tennis lessons (aka clinics) that will give your junior the opportunity to learn and grow in the game of tennis.

Programs are available from ages 5 to 18 and from beginner to intermediate, as well as advanced skill levels. The atmosphere is informal, with emphasis on fun, fitness, and play.

BOYS & GIRLS MIDDLE/HIGH SCHOOL LEAGUE

This program is designed to prepare athletes for the match play and high school tennis and to keep their skills sharp all season long. Players will meet weekly (scheduled for Wednesday) for practice conducted by a SATA coach, which will include 90 min of drills, cardio and play. Also, we will compete against other private/public schools in the area. Currently Matches are scheduled for March 5th and 11th against Hargrave Academy.

This program will accommodate middle school, high school JV players and individuals not able to compete on or don’t have a high school program. Intermediate Skill level is recommended and you must be able to serve and keep score. Program size is limited and cost is $65.

SATA High Performance Program

For Competitive Juniors.

The program will emphasize modern stroke mechanics and Match play strategy along with intensive drills and strength & conditioning. This program will also provide a pathway to USTA matches in the region, Individual player Grants and USTA Camps.

To be considered for these opportunities, a player must be training and competing in tournaments year-round and also meet at least one of the following requirements :

  • Ranked in the Top 300 USTA National
  • Ranked in Top 20 in his/her section age category
  • Have an ITF ranking
  • Have an ATP / WTA ranking).

Adult Team Tennis

This fun competitive league is Co-ed and for playing levels from intermediate to advanced. This league offers a great way for all levels and abilities to play in a flexible and fun format. This 6-week season will be played at Stratford Tennis Club on Tuesday Nights at 6pm. This league will finish with an all-team championship. Click the sign up now link for more info.

This is a 6 week mixed doubles league that takes place on Tuesday evenings from 6pm – 8pm. There will be two teams with 9 people each. If you are interested in being a team captain please note that on your registration form.

SPRING BREAK CAMP

This will be a fun and instructional camp for kids on spring break. We will introduce the sport of tennis to beginners and also work with all levels of players to continue to develop their tennis skills.  We might also mix in a few special events and have a surprise visitor or two. For ages 5-18.

Annual 1 week program for youth that includes a one week session in April.

Spring Break High School JV and Varsity Tennis Camp

This camp is geared towards Middle School or High School players looking to keep their skills sharp over the break and also concentrate on improving stoke development.

SUMMER BREAK CAMP

Annual 2-week program for youth that includes one week session in June, and one week in July. 2026 dates are June 8-12th (session I) and Session II (July 6-10)

ADULT RED BALL

Adult Red Ball Tennis is a FUN adult social experience designed to bring new players to the court and have them playing the game in 10 minutes! With modified equipment and an all-inclusive package, Adult Red Ball Tennis supercharges the success of each player and brings a new level of fitness and energy to all involved.

Classes last 1 hr and are ongoing at George Washington High School tennis courts in Danville VA.
